I had a talk with my pops...

February 14, 2017

Repost from my original Facebook post on 2/11/2017.

Talked with my Pops for 5 hours today...talked about life. Talked about society.

Talked about family.

Came a long way from the streets of Compton.
We weren't supposed to make it out.

We weren't supposed to be able to experience life on the scale that we are living today.

We were supposed to be another statistical number of Black death.

We aren't supposed to be survivors.

But we are.

We survived the chaos of drugs, alcohol, and strife.

Not just me and Pops...but me, Moms, and my Brothers...BLOOD and AFFILIATED BLOOD.

I've led a tough life...partly due to my own choices...partly due to sociological weight.

My experiences only make me stronger...just like your experiences have made you stronger.

I don't talk about the dark times openly.

Nah...I never gangbanged...but I knew the gangsters.

They steered me from that life.

My folk from L.A. know how we got down.
Tijuana trips...Mall scraps...all just memories of a past life.

Today, I'm a Black American...struggling to make sense of the society that I currently exist in.

I still have a fighting spirit...for myself and for those who are oppressed.

I'm just getting started though.

Stay alert.

Never forget where you came from...
Keep sight of where you're going.

Count your blessings.

You have the power to rise above your circumstances.

Much Love.
Trey
